Day 12 - Windows and Cladding

Today was some more "noticeable" stuff. Firstly, the Velux windows for the front of the roof arrived (along with a lot more wood). This all quickly disappeared up the ladder to the roof, and after a lot of knocking and banging, we now have the windows in the roof.

The electrician was here for a few hours, and has put the cabling in which will be placed into the walls within the loft - this includes lights, power sockets, TV, telephone and the network cabling. Once the stairs are in, the cables will be run down to the cellar to join into the fuse board.

The other easy to spot job is the slate tile cladding on the outside of the dormer. It looks really good already, and it's only part done!

The other stuff that's continuing is the internal walls within the roof space. I'm hoping to pop up and have another look tomorrow just to make sure we're happy with what we asked for.

The final steel beam should be arriving in the next couple of days apparently. This is the one that goes across the ridge, and supports the weight of the dormer.

It still looks very big from the outside!

As a comparison, this is another dormer (not ours) that has been put up locally. It's clad differently, and the house itself is slightly smaller, but the most interesting bit is that the dormer doesn't stretch to the mid-line (because of the ridge mounted chimney) and there's a fairly large strip of tiles down the "outside" edge of the dormer, suggesting they have probably lost about 2 feet of internal space.
